Microspikes for Winter Running

Microspikes for Winter Running

I know it isn't even Thanksgiving yet, but microspikes for Winter running is something to add to your running list.

I don't do any ice climbing or Winter mountain climbing, so I don't need heavy-duty crampons, but microspikes come in handy for running and for hiking in the Winter.

Even if there's not a ton of snow on the ground, rocks and other stuff just under the surface of the snow can still be slick. And, if you're doing any hiking or running near any steep drop-offs, it is definitely better to be safe than to be sorry.

Usually, I'm terrible at packing stuff, but I always keep my microspikes in my running pack, so I'll have them if I need them. They're light-weight, and easy to slip on or off, especially when you find deeper snow where you need to switch to snowshoes.

Just thought I'd chime in since I didn't see it listed by anyone yet!

Excellent suggestion! Thanks, Mandi!

For those interested, we've had great success with Kahtoola brand microspikes #CommissionsEarned for our Winter adventuring. One pair of their microspikes has lasted us through the last 3 Winter seasons, and with little apparent wear and tear. We're fans!

Hi Mandi,

Great suggestion! It feels like Winter was so long ago that we hadn't even thought about microspikes (though, we have been looking forward to some snowshoeing!).

We'll definitely be checking our packs before first snow, so that we'll be ready!

Happy running, snowshoeing, and microspiking to you!
