Welcome to the marathon running gear reviews area of our site!
On this page, you'll be invited to read & to post reviews of the running gear that you've personally used. Cool, right!?
When it comes to running and racing, the discussions between runners often turn to what's working well & what isn't.
That isn't just in relation to running workouts.
That these talks occur is true whether before, during, or after a training day or race.
And, they occur with runners of any distance from 1-mile, 5k, 10k, marathon, ultra, and everything in between.
The best running shoes discussion is a staple among most runners when talking about marathon running gear, except for those who favor barefoot running as their mode of transportation on the roads and trails.
So, what makes this one of the more popular discussions?
Here are a few of the key elements that might influence that answer:
And, some of the favored types and brands:
If you've ever heard runners argue their love of zero toe drop versus almost anything else, then you know that this conversation could go on for hours! (Much love to our zero toe drop community!).
Some might argue that choosing, and wearing, the best running socks is as important as deciding upon the shoes that you'll wear.
We're huge fans of Injinji Toe Socks, but there are several great brands (with raving fans) out there!
Here are just a few whose names often pop up in discussion:
It is near unbelievable how much technology has changed over the last 5, 10, and 20+ years.
Whether you love technology and running gadgets, or prefer to disconnect when your feet hit the pavement or trails, runners technology remains a well-discussed topic.
From discussions of best running watches, GPS running watches, heart-rate monitoring watches, the seemingly unlimited options for data sharing and analysis, and applications to crosstraining activities, this is one of the most popular icebreakers in many running communities.
We're sure that you're familiar with some of the top names in runners technology:
I've often tended to over-dress for many of my running events.
Usually, that's because I've traveled for races, and wasn't entirely familiar with the real feel of the weather in certain parts of the Country, and especially at certain elevations!
Thankfully that tendency to over-dress carries over to my, usually being, over-prepared in terms of the amount of nutrition and hydration I have available to me while out in the middle of nowhere!
When it came to my experiences with The Beast of Burden Winter 50-Mile Race, and The Endurance Society's Frigus Snowshoe Festival (pictured), I'm glad that I'd relied upon the recommendations of others in preparing.
No matter your Winter activity (several fun, options listed below), having the appropriate Winter running gear is essential to enjoyment and achievement!
Whether handheld, backpack-variety, or other, ensuring that you have proper hydration while out adventuring is key.
We've had some equipment malfunctions (a great way to have your mental game thrown off-kilter, unless you've trained for the things that could go wrong a la Michael Phelps!), related to the closure of hydration packs, while out in the middle of ultramarathons.
Among the faves in the running community:
The support and optimism of the running community was partly responsible for bringing us to participation in other types of sports, challenges, and events.
Among the other running events we enjoy:
With that, it is much more than just marathon running gear that is on our minds, but gear for every sport and activity in which we might be involved!
Here's a little bit more on marathon clothing, along with some recommended gear for various seasons.
Runners of all levels of experience, and of all distances, are constantly testing out what works in terms of running gear.
Whether before, during, or after a run with friends, it becomes a hot topic of discussion. It's one of the ways that we learn.
And, then we go test things out for ourselves (based on many of those recommendations and reviews).
So, we want to hear the good, the bad, and the great of all the running gear, products, clothes, and technology that you've tested out.
Here are some examples of topics you might write about:
